Note on Wife: Matilda ANDERSON

Martha is a mystery. She migrated at age 23 in 1862. She married George Horne at 22 in 1862. These would have her born in 1839/1840. However, the Baptism Register shows her being baptised 1829. In all liklihood she put her age back 10 years to migrate.

 

The other mystery is her real name. She was Matilda on the Baptism register, on the migration sponsorship journal and on her marriage to George Horne but the migration record had her as Martha. It must be the same person because the sponsorship records nominate the ship, Hotspur 1862.
